Best of Impossible worlds?
Domesticity beckons for everyone’s favourite ’super-spy’ Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) - he has turned his back on active duty and is now training new IMF (Impossible Mission Force) agents.

The cover story for beautiful wife-to-be, Julia (Michelle Monaghan) is that he works in traffic-control management, but, on the night of their engagement party, he’s called back into action to confront uber-villain Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman), an international weapons and information mercenary untroubled by bothersome human traits such as remorse or conscience. With new recruit Lindsey (Keri Russel) fallen into Davian’s clutches, Hunt hits the trail with old team-mate Luther Strickell (Ving Rhames), transportation expert Declan (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and background operative Zhen (Maggie Q).

Here be dragons…

James and I tossed a coin for the write-up of Cloverfield and I won – or lost, I can’t remember which. The reason for my difficulty is that I don’t want to give too much away. I know - it’s been all over the internet since the teaser trailer appeared at the initial screenings of Transformers but I managed to get to the official screening armed with nothing more than scant knowledge of the plot and/or cast.

The chances are that if you’re reading this you (a) have a computer with an internet connection or (b) know someone who has. This is a good thing for me, or I’d be writing things to myself, which wouldn’t be as much fun. My rambling point is that this Internet thingy has become the way to promote new movies. I know, you’re thinking “Jesus - when did he wake up?” But I’m talking about the more subtle and more complex issue of viral marketing. This is the method of promotion being used to promote the new movie Cloverfield - the latest work by the producer of the hit television series Lost.
