Preachy, pointless, passable

Regular Picturenose readers will remember that our Colin was not at all happy with the news that the Robert Wise sci-fi classic, The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) was to be remade, starring old ’stone face’ himself, Keanu Reeves, as Klaatu the interplanetary would-be peace-monger. Colin whined on about it here first, then he had another moan here but, as chance would have it, reviewing duties fell to yours truly. So, are Col and I heading for a bust-up?

So, it becomes reality. The production I was whining on about in an earlier article has finally hit the trailers scene. The completely unnecessary remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) is almost upon us.

I am not happy. There is soon to be a remake of a classic movie, Robert Wise’s The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). You know the one – scary guy from outer space (with scary robot, Gort) appears to tell the world of the dire consequences to befall them if they don’t stop being nasty to each other. Klaatu (for it is he, Michael Rennie) warns the people of Earth that if all wars do not cease pretty damn quick and everyone starts to get on, the Earth will be destroyed. Faced with that sort of threat, the good people of our pretty blue planet get with the programme and all is well. Hooray!
