Clips ahoy!

Today’s news roundup brings you clips for your viewing pleasure. I say ‘clips’ because one of the many things I hate about the internet is the ‘teaser trailer’. What dick ever thought that one up? In fact, if I’d bothered to sit down and stitch together all the Dark Knight ‘teasers’ I’d seen, I’d have seen pretty much the whole movie by now. Hardly a tease when you can see it all, I say. Complaining over (for now). Being on the subject of The Dark Knight does segue quite neatly into the fact that yours truly will be at the press screening next week, so check back for a blow-by-blow report on Wednesday (9 July 2008). I don’t really need to point you to yet another clip from the film, as I guess that if you haven’t already seen one, you a) don’t like The Batman or b) don’t have a computer.

Quantum of Solace trailer online!

For all you Bond fans out there, this will be great news. The very first official clip is already online in various formats (including the crappy never-works-in-my-browser waste of bytes that is Quicktime). For your own safety and comfort I suggest you go to the official site to view the clip in a good quality format. I found the site to be a little on the slow side, but I suspect it’s because there are several hundred thousand people like James out there, streaming it eight times in a row, dribbling over every cut. For the more normal and objective among us, I thought it was rather stylish. It’s a slow build, reprising some of the events of Casino Royale (2006) to start with and then launching full-on into stunts, bikes, planes, guns and smokin’ hot babez. So, practically indistinguishable from any other Bond movie. I will, of course, go to see it - it looks like a lot of fun. The clip’s good value at just under two minutes, too.

Hunter gathers momentum

Let’s dispense with this frippery and take a look at a movie I always hoped would be made: Gonzo: The Life and Works of Dr Hunter S Thompson (2008). Previewed at The Sundance Festival earlier this year, this film has an extremely high viewer satisfaction rating around the internet. This documentary sets out to (try to) explain the wonderful and weird legacy left by this enigmatic - and often borderline manic - journalist, writer and political commentator. The film uses many different angles to present the rise and fall of one of America’s most enigmatic characters, including, animation, recreations, live footage and interviews. There’s only one clip I could find (on cinematical.com), and it’s quite short but I’ll link to it anyway because well, damn it, I just like Hunter S Thompson.
